A retreat for yoga teachers to come together and translate their teaching to a new modality; attain a teaching certification in Aerial Yoga or SUP Yoga. Let your yoga practice and teaching expand through new modalities on the water and in the air, and explore the transformative power of yoga beyond the traditional studio setting.

Arrival/Departure: July 4 arrive between 2-3 pm. July 7 departure is after lunch, between 2-3 pm.
Requirements: 200 hour YTT certification required for either aerial yoga or SUP yoga course. Additionally, intermediate SUP skills required for SUP yoga stream.
Location: Northern Edge Algonquin, South River, Ontario
Pricing: All-inclusive shared accommodation rates begin at $1734 per person for the 4-day Aerial Yoga SUP Yoga Teacher Training retreat. Further pricing details can be viewed below under ‘Accommodations & Pricing’ and is tiered based on the choice of accommodation. A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your spot.

Float: Aerial & SUP Yoga Teacher Training is a retreat exclusively for certified yoga teachers with a minimum 200-hour yoga teacher training certification, and YTT participants who will be graduating in 2024. This one-of-a-kind retreat invites yoga instructors from a variety of backgrounds to mingle and learn together in this immersive retreat weekend.

Dive into the world of SUP Yoga or Aerial Yoga with expert guidance. Choose your path: become a Certified Aerial Yoga Instructor and gain C.E credits through Yoga Alliance, or become a SUP Yoga Teacher and gain the accompanying Paddle Canada Basic SUP Instructor certificate. Whichever you choose, you'll gain new perspectives and skills that will enrich your teaching and practice.  Take everything you know about teaching yoga, and discover how these skills can be translated to practicing on a SUP board, with aerial silks, and more.  Although participants choose between Aerial or SUP yoga for their workshop and certification, everyone will have the opportunity to experience both practices through a practical teaching exchange.


Requirements:
In addition to the 200-hour YTT certification, participants must ensure they are skilled SUP paddlers at the intermediate level. This can be demonstrated through meeting the below requirements or with a Paddle Canada Advanced SUP Skills certificate or equivalent. Our team can help you determine if you meet the paddle skills requirements for this training, please contact us to determine your skill levels and where to obtain further training.

***Intermediate SUP paddlers can: control and direct the paddleboard in wind and waves, paddle straight with an efficient forward stroke, apply effective turning (sweep stroke, draw stroke, crossbow stroke) and self-rescue.***

SUP Yoga Course Content:
The SUP YTT is designed for developing and practicing skills in leading SUP Yoga Sessions on the water. The training includes:

Setting up a floating studio and required equipment.
Designing classes for all levels. Methods for sequencing, alignment, cueing, and pose modifications for the paddle board.
Safely instructing participants on paddleboard skills and on-the-water practice.
Incorporating a connection with nature through mindfulness and meditation.
Different types of SUP yoga business models.
Practice teaching component.

Location & Equipment Provided:
The SUP Yoga Teacher Training will take place at the Dragonfly Dock and on Kawawaymog Lake.
Stand-up paddle boards with PFDs, ankle straps, and whistles are provided by the Edge. Participants with their own gear are encouraged to bring it to get familiar with their own setup.

A workbook & manual will be provided for students to take home for comprehensive learning.

Certification Outcomes:
Participants completing course outcomes and demonstrating teaching skills will receive a SUP Yoga Instructor certificate from Rebel Soul and a Paddle Canada Basic Flatwater SUP Instructor certificate through Court Outdoors.

Requirements:
This program is open to those who have completed or are in the process of completing a minimum 200-hour yoga teacher training.

Aerial Yoga Course Content:
The Aerial YTT is designed for developing and practicing skills in leading Aerial Yoga Classes in a studio setting. This will cover:
Silk care & maintenance, safety, different styles of rigging.
Wide variety of poses including inversions, suspensions, traditional yoga poses using silks for support or depth.
Ways to use silks in restorative and active practices.
Methods for sequencing, alignment, cueing, and pose modifications.
Strategies for diversifying & enriching your teaching portfolio, expanding your impact and income potential as a yoga teacher.
Practice teaching component.

Location & Equipment Provided:
The Aerial Program will take place in our brand-new Radiance Studio. The silks at Northern Edge are anchored at a single point with daisy chains. Everything learned can be applied also to yoga hammocks and double-point anchoring systems.

A workbook & manual will be provided for students to take home for comprehensive learning.

Certification Outcomes:
Participants completing course outcomes and demonstrating teaching skills will receive a certificate from Grounded U and qualify for 25 Continuing Education credits through the Yoga Alliance.

ABOUT NORTHERN EDGE ALGONQUIN
Activities & Waterfront

The Edge waterfront on Kawawaymog Lake is gorgeous with a sandy bottom that is great for swimming! A floating platform is a beautiful spot for meditation, yoga practice, or reading a book.

Equipment is included and available for free time including canoes, bicycles, and standup paddleboards. Turtle Shell Activity Centre is the home of the outdoor equipment including first aid kits, dry bags, and rain suits that may be used for our paddling excursions. In the evenings we will enjoy a wood-fired sauna and the firepit.

On this nature retreat, you will lay your head down in a cozy cabin nestled in among the trees. Step outside your cabin door at night to take in the view of your million-star hotel. If you are traveling with a friend you may request to be roommates. Solo travellers may also request a roommate if they wish to share or reduce cost. Experience Algonquin Park glamping.

Canvas Cabin - Enjoy simple elegance in this wood structure filled with natural light under a clear canopy roof. These cabins are an unheated glamping experience.. best for hearing the loons! Washrooms & showers just a short walk away.
Studio Cabin - A heated wooden cabin with an en-suite bathroom including an incinerating toilet and running water.
Dreamer’s Hill - The most comfortable and luxurious log cabin, with en-suite options. This is the ultimate upgrade with cozy duvets and flush toilets. This cabin is a short walk uphill from the lakefront.

A 50% deposit is required at the time of booking to hold your spot at the retreat. The remaining balance will be due 15 days prior to the first day of the retreat.

Mealtime at the Edge is memorable! Chef Gregor will dazzle your taste buds through the preparation of globally far-flung tastes with provincially produced foods. Ingredients come from the Edge garden (home grown veggies!), local gardens and Ontario farms, as well as selecting locally raised meat, and organically grown fair trade coffee. 

Meals take into account specialty food restrictions for health and personal reasons ensuring each individual's needs are looked after.

Mealtime is a mix of buffet breakfast and plated lakeside dining.


Facilities

As an eco resort and wellness centre in Algonquin Park, Northern Edge Algonquin is the perfect place for a SUP and yoga retreat. The Edge has low carbon, sustainable, eco-friendly facilities and was recognized by TripAdvisor as a PLATINUM LEVEL GreenLeader for their outstanding commitment to sustainable tourism operations and eco-friendly practices.

Points North: this is our retreat 'living room' - a gathering area featuring a bright studio space, a lounge, and full bathrooms and showers. This is where we'll laugh and have tea and dessert late at night and make music together upstairs. 

Mainhouse: Facing Kawawaymog Lake, the Mainhouse (or lakeside Hive deck) has a beautiful dining room overlooking the lake and is where we'll share meals and stories.

Courtney Sinclair, Paddle Canada SUP Instructor Trainer, 200 hr RYT

Courtney is a Paddle Canada Advanced Flatwater SUP Instructor Trainer, Touring 1 SUP Instructor, ultra-distance marathon paddler, Paddling Magazine contributor, and international SUP expedition guide. Courtney was first introduced to stand up paddling at Northern Edge Algonquin and looks forward to supporting you in expanding your skillset in SUP and SUP yoga at one of her favourite wilderness locations. Courtney will be working with you to develop and assess your SUP skills towards your Paddle Canada Basic Flatwater SUP Instructor certification.

Sylvie Lamothe, SUP Yoga Specialist

Sylvie is a seasoned SUP Yoga and Paddleboard Instructor who’s been empowering others to find balance and seek adventure through SUP Yoga and paddleboarding. Over the last five years, Sylvie has established a thriving SUP business in Northern Ontario offering: SUP yoga classes, SUP skills courses, SUP yoga teacher trainings, and SUP yoga backcountry retreats. Sylvie is known for her infectious enthusiasm while leading transformational experiences that invite you to dance at the edges of your comfort zone, explore what it means to live fully, and embark on a journey of self-discovery and growth.

Krystal Gignac, Aerial Yoga Specialist

Krystal Gignac, co-founder of Grounded Studios, specializes in many diverse styles of yoga including aerial yoga and offers dedicated teacher training programs in North Bay, ON, and Orlando, FL. Her approach highlights the challenging yet supportive nature of aerial yoga, encouraging practitioners to expand their limits. Krystal is passionate about Aerial Yoga, teaching & promoting it’s wellness benefits as an integral piece of Grounded Studios.
